Hello Readers!

Welcome to the DFW Reiki Healing Network Newsletter!

I will be sending out this newsletter as often as I have Member information available or need to communicate special news to you.
********************************************************************************************************************************************************

Dear Loyal Readers,

This was taken from my Reiki by Rockie Blog: http://reikibyrockie.blogspot.com/

Hello All.

I have just returned from a week's stay in the hospital. Saturday a week ago I awoke with a tremendous pain in my lower chest. I had had this pain before but not as severe. A Reiki Touch for a while and the pain would abate.

Not this time. I knew when my self-treatment did not help I was in trouble. Maybe a heart attack, I thought? So I had my wife take me to the hospital. After several grueling hours of pain the doctors decided I had an infected gallbladder. Could they remove it? No, I have bad heart and was not up to major surgery. So they inserted a tube to drain the bad organ and postponed major surgery. Pain relief at last.

After a week's stay to fight the infection I was sent home to rest up. I still have to have the surgery, but under guarded procedure. The big day is in the next week or so.

Having bored you thus far, there is a reason I tell you this story. While laying in the hospital I worried that I would be missed. You see I am Editor and Founder of the DFW Reiki Healing Network where I provide free announcement and publishing services for the Reiki Community. I was worried that someone would need an event announced or a new article they needed published and put out on our live news feed.

When I returned home I found my mailbox empty except for a request for Reiki and prayers for me and my wife (thank you)and a ton of SPAM. This experience makes me wonder if I am truly providing a service to the Reiki folks out there.

Each month I get events and articles from my faithful few that send me their postings like clockwork. But, what of the many others I could help by announcing their classes, seminars, and events. Here you have a direct link to the news feeds to publish your ideas, articles, and stories. Much to my dismay, very few take advantage of the free services.

My original idea of providing these free services continues, but for how long? I grow weary of begging for content. So I am calling on all of you for your help. Give me some ideas or feedback on how to expand the users for these wonderful free services. Write to me at mailto:heyrockie@dfwrhn.com with your ideas and feedback. I truly need your help and encouragement.

Thanks for listening.
Volume I #011

Hello Readers!

Welcome to the DFW Reiki Healing Network Newsletter!

I will be sending out this newsletter as often as I have Member information available or need to communicate special news to you.

Dear Loyal Readers,

By looking at the stats of my live news feeds, I know many of you have not subscribed. This means that you are looking at the web site (or not) for your information or just waiting for an email update.

This, as I have stated before, will become less and less the case as the news feeds take over. If you have not subscribed, I have included a new reason to do so.

I am proud to announce that I have invested in a new software upgrade that sends all of my live news feeds to over eighty critical news feed search engines.

Why is this important and how does it affect me? This means that your events, seminars, classes, announcements, and directory listings will receive even a greater reading audience than ever before. This much added exposure would help ensure that you reach an interested group of people for your services and seminars.

And as always, my listing and announcement services are free. This gives you a lot of bang for your free buck and will hopefully help fill your classes, shares, and seminars.

To help offset the cost of this investment, I am offering a paid service for those of you who have a Blog or news feed that you wish to have submitted to these search engines. I will send your Blog or news feed to the same search engines as my feeds, when ever you update, for $14.95 (plus applicable tax) per month of service, billed monthly.

For more details and a list of search engines contact me at:
heyrockie@dfwrhn.com.

Meanwhile, keep sending me your new classes, schedules and directory listings. Free as always!
Hello Readers!

Welcome to the tenth official edition of the DFW Reiki Healing Network Newsletter!

I will be sending out this newsletter as often as I have Member information available or need to communicate special news to you.

Please Note:

In an effort to stop sending you individual email updates, newsletters, etc, all communication from the DFWRHN will now be handled via news feed newsletter subscriptions.

If you want to stay abreast of what is happening at DFWRHN then you must subscribe to the newsletter news feed. You may do so by selecting your news feed choice below.

NOTE: This one feed does not provide all of the live news feeds available from DFWRHN. To subscribe to the Events, Articles, or Blog feeds go to: http://www.dfwrhn.com/addfeed.html and make your selections.

This is an attempt to eliminate email communication that fills your Inbox, causes SPAM, or my email messages are blocked AS SPAM by your web service provider and you never see them.

I will still take your emails and personally answer them. If you have any comments on this matter contact me at heyrockie@dfwrhn.com.

Hello Readers!

Welcome to the eighth official edition of the DFW Reiki Healing Network Newsletter!

I will be sending out this newsletter as often as I have Member information available or need to communicate special news to you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below is a good explanation on what news feeds are, how they are useful, and how to use them:

Feed 101
Courtesy of FeedBurner

Feed 101

What Does This Mean?

You may recognize the universal feed icon or these “chicklets” from your favorite Web sites, blogs and podcasts. These icons represent content in any format — text, audio or video — to which you can subscribe and read/watch/listen using a feed reader.

Why is This a Good Thing?

Technology evolution in online publishing has made it really easy to not only publish regular updates to web-based content, but also keep track of a large number of your favorite Web sites or blogs, without having to remember to check each site manually or clutter your email Inbox. You can now streamline your online experience by subscribing to specific content feeds and aggregating this information in one place to be read when you're ready.

Consumer Bottom Line:
Subscribing to feeds makes it possible to review a large amount of online content in a very short time.

Publisher Bottom Line:
Feeds permit instant distribution of content and the ability to make it "subscribable."

Advertiser Bottom Line:
Advertising in feeds overcomes many of the shortcomings that traditional marketing channels encounter including spam filters, delayed distribution, search engine rankings and general in-box noise.

Who publishes feeds?

Most of the biggest names on the web offer content feeds including USATODAY.com, BBC News Headlines, ABCNews, CNET, Yahoo!, Amazon.com (including a podcast!), and many more. In addition, hundreds of thousands of bloggers, podcasters and videobloggers publish feeds to keep themselves better connected to their readers/listeners/admirers/critics. Apple, through its iTunes Music Store, offers tens of thousands of audio and video podcasts for download, each of which is powered by a feed.

How do I read feeds?

If you want to browse and subscribe to feeds, you have many choices. Today, there are more than 2,000 different feed reading applications, also known as news aggregators (for text, mostly) or podcatchers (for podcasts). There are even readers that work exclusively on mobile devices.

Some require a small purchase price but are tops for ease-of-use and ship with dozens of feeds pre-loaded so you can explore the feed "universe" right away. Free readers are available as well; a search for "Feed reader" or "Feed aggregator" at popular search sites will yield many results.

A typical interface for a feed reader will display your feeds and the number of new (unread) entries within each of those feeds. You can also organize your feeds into categories and even clip and save your favorite entries (with certain applications).

If you prefer, you can use an online, web-based service to track and manage feeds. Online services give you the advantage of being able to access your feed updates anywhere you can find a web browser. Also, upgrades and new features are added automatically.

How can I publish my own feeds?

If you have a Web site, blog, audio/video content or even photos, you can offer a feed of your content as an option. If you are using a popular blogging platform or publishing tool like TypePad, Wordpress or Blogger, you likely publish a feed automatically. Even other, non-blogging sites like social photo-sharing service Flickr offer feeds of content you produce that others can retrieve. There are also tools on the market that can help transform traditional web content into the right format for distribution.

FeedBurner's services allow publishers who already have a feed to improve their understanding of and relationship with their audience. Once you have a working feed, run it through FeedBurner and realize a whole new set of benefits.

And finally, some technical backstory

The new method for easily distributing online content is often called a web feed and the technical format that makes it possible is called RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary, and/or Rockdale, Sandow, and Southern (Railroad) if you trust the good folks at AcronymFinder.com. RSS is based on XML, a widely used standard for textual information exchange between applications on the Internet. RSS feeds can be viewed as plain text files, but they're really designed for computer-to-computer communication.

We should point out that RSS is just one standard for expressing feeds as XML. Another well-known choice is Atom. Both formats have their boosters, and it does not appear that consolidation toward a single standard is imminent. However, most feed subscribers simply want fresh content and don't care at all about the underlying protocol.

(FeedBurner helps publishers avoid this quandary with our SmartFeed service, which makes any feed format readable on any subscriber device.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Until next time,

May the Light of Reiki shine Brightly upon You
.
